sugar hill city
Sugar Hill city, Georgia, was incorporated more than six decades ago. Sugar Hill has become one of the premier communities of the Atlanta Metro area. Minutes from Lake Lanier and the Georgia Mountains, but a short distance from the City of Atlanta, Sugar Hill's country setting has much to offer. The Sugar Hill City Park offers two pavilions, regulation fields and courts for sports, and an amphitheater. The Sugar Hill Golf Club is one of the best courses in the area and has reduced rates for city residents. The Sugar Hill Community Center offers a place for members of the community to meet and relax. The ability of the leaders of Sugar Hill to keep all eyes and ears open to the needs of the community has enabled it to become and remain a city worthy of a reputation for living "The Sweet Life"!
Sugar Hill's name is based on a story when a heavily loaded wagon lost a wheel on a high hill and spilled a part of its load, including several large bags of sugar. The wheel was repaired and the wagon reloaded - except for the sugar hill from the bags. The area became known as "The hill where the sugar spilled." It was shortened to "The Sugar Hill" and then just to "Sugar Hill." Sugar Hill existed as a Georgia Militia District for many years before it was charted as a city on March 24, 1939.
